Mum loved wildflowers right to the end. This is part of the last video we recorded a few weeks before she passed away from bowel cancer. She's waving them for you.

E

verying matters in terms of us choosing to care and the level of care that we offer our loved ones. Many of these webpages use images of dandelions and wildflowers as a background. I love the bright abundance of them and how when they go to seed they are still beautiful. Everything changes in terms of how we see things. Many gardeners and those with lawns see them as weeds and as a nuisance, but some see them as beautiful.

What is their true nature - if they have one?

When I was very young, about 4 years old, I distinctly remember waking up one morning and looking out on the front lawn, almost overnight a sea of bright yellow dandelions had sprung up. I could not believe the bounty of flowers. I rushed outside and picked a big bouquet of them and brought them inside to my Mother. She made a big fuss over them and claimed they were the most beautiful flowers on earth. So I would often pick them for my Mum as a little boy. Sure they would not last long, but it was so easy to get more ;-).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Dandelions remind me that there is beauty everywhere and so often it's hidden in plain sight - like our elders.
